I visited Croatia and Zagreb for the first time. Me and my friend tried to choose an appropriate hostel or hotel in Zagreb and were afraid that our choice might be wrong. We were reading a lot of reviews and couldn’t make the right choice owing to many negative comments. Hostel Servus wasn’t an exception. I booked this hostel because it was situated near the main bus station and it was very convenient for us as we were going to the sea by bus after our time in Zagreb. Well I booked it and only after that I read so many negative reviews of the hostel. So we didn’t know what we were supposed to do: to cancel the booking or to try this on our own hook. Now I I’ve been there and I can surely say that for us it was definitely the right place to stay for several nights. I don’t really know what other guest were expecting of the hostel. Of course it’s not Hilton or InterContinental Hotel Group. It’s a pretty guest house in the back yard of a private family house. It’s a very quiet and comfortable place to stay for several nights in Zagreb if you are going to see places of interest and not just seat or lie on bed in your room. The rooms have very plain but sufficient stuff: beds, bedside tables, wardrobe and TV-set. Toilet and shower are placed right next to the rooms in the hall. The host of the hostel is a very nice person named Roman. We were very glad to meet him. He told us about the country and Zagreb, about right places to eat or drink, about some facts of Croatian history and so on. It was important for us to have a contact with real Croatian people and to see the culture from the inside instead of watching it from the tourist bus window. Resume: if you have to stay for several nights in Zagreb near the transport centre and you are not too pretentious Servus is the very place you need for such a price. I don't know how the place is inside (the building looked horrible outside) because when we turned up we found closed doors..Wrong address? We asked for a refund..
Room is essentially in the back yard of someone's house. There were lots of cables and wires loose and sticking out in room and bathroom!!
AVOID!THIS IS THE WORST ACCOMMODATION EVER! OWNER IS VERY RUDE,JUST WALKS INTO YOUR ROOM UNANNOUNCED WITH A LIT CIGARETTE! MATTRESS IS MOST UNCOMFORTABLE! BROKEN GLASS ALL OVER THE FLOOR! NO TOILET SEAT! 30 MINUTE WALK TO CITY CENTER! WANTED ME TO SWAP ROOMS 3 TIMES IN 3 DAYS,I JUST LEFT! ONLY PRISON CAN BE WORSE!!!
If you don't understand Croatian, don't go there, as there's nobody there to receive you, and the note on the door-in Croatian- says that you must call a phone number in order to have a receptionist come to the location.Very inconvenient!!! If you enjoy sheets on the bed, don't go there, as there aren't any sheets. Spend your money elsewhere in Zagreb, as this place, and its owner just aren't worth the bother.Sad but true,as we generally write positive reviews.
Stay away! We're usually not overly picky but this was clearly too much! The room and the shared bathroom were extremely dirty and just about everything was broken: the window frame was hanging on one hinge, the power points almost fell off the wall but most of all, the door didn't lock. We felt pretty unsafe the whole night. One of the mattresses was an absolute joke - just by lying on it, we could easily count the springs...
very bad. Beds awful, place old an collapsed. Toilet and shower dirti and broker, To much monei for such a horrible place. We will nerver come back
We arrived late at night to a smoke filled lobby, unable to change our hotel stay. We found the facility to be smokey, lumpy beds, no instruction for hot water, and downright unpleasant. We moved to another hotel and received a full refund for the second night. Do not recommend to any non-smoker! YUCKY!
Good for transit for one night
Served our purpose of a brief one night stay. Great location next to the bus station, very friendly and helpful staff. Beds were uncomfortable and whenever you ran any water (sink, toilet, shower) it made a very loud noise. Good for a night, but not more.
From bus station close and easy to found. We were there for four days, room ok, shared bathroom ok. Only problem I had was the thing they didn't clean the room while we were there, and the bed was really horrible. After day one my boyfriend decided to sleep on the floor..
