Fano was called Fanum Fortunae in Roman times and today is one of the most important sea side resorts and fishing ports on the Adriatic Sea. It allows the tourists to pass from the sea to suggestive hilly landscapes within a few kilometers to the unfolding of a first rate historical , cultural and environmental heritage. Fano is situated on the mouth of the River Metauro as it enters the Adriatic Sea. The consular road Via Flaminia has connected it with Rome since 218 B.C. It serves as the ideal base to visit the rich hinterland of artistic and natural beauty of great relevance. It's carnival is also famous in both it's winter and summer editions.
