Visited September 2010 stayed in a private room. Room was very clean and kept so during my visit. Hostel is in a good location, 15 min walk from the forbidden city/ tianammen or better yet pop on Bus 2 and you are there ! Bus 2 is your friend. Hostel Can organise the standard beijing tours for you if you want.... A bit pricey but those seem standard from what I saw around. Restaurant served nice Asian food and even okay western food as well. Not the most social Atmosphere when I stayed there however but hey. All in all good place and I would recommend.
This is my second stay in this hostel and place is as good as it was 3 years ago: Friendly and very helpful staff, good location (Forbidden City @ 10 min bus or 30 min walk; direct bus line to bar street), and above all - cleanliness and tidiness... very "Hotel-like". Good choice of western & Chinese cousine (staff can recommend if not sure what to eat). Also - many restaurants nearby (including 2 famous Chinese snack-streets @ 30-40 min walk from hostel) We took twin bed ensuite, and had breakfast included in price - very good value. Only downside is a bit "sterile" feeling of hotel - a bit more of "backpacker" spirit would make it perfect. However, if you look for good place to re-charge batteries from bustling Beijing, then this is THE hostel.
More hotel than hostel, it has little personality as suitcases take over backpacks. Location near Forbidden City is cool, but still quite far from the subway. The service was very good, only the tours offered were slightly overpriced (otherwise we were satisfied with our Jinshaling-Simatai Great Wall tour).
Very friendly Staff. Breakfast OK. The only bad things is, that you have to pay all tours and tickets you book at the Hotel in cash.
Great value. Bookable tours are generic ones in hotels. They have bath slippers which was great. Provide western style dishes for same price at home. Overcharge on chinese dishes. Cheap buns and fast food on a corner shop. Convenience store with groceries 5 min walk from corner. Get the address in chinese characters (Beiheyan & Zhide Alley). It IS near Fuchaniyiyuan (which is a hospital) but most chinese can't read english. A tourist map helps. There is a sign on Beiheyan for the hostel.
This 'Hostelling International' accommodation is very well situated in the centre of Beijing. I rarely visited a place that was so clean and well maintained. A good spot to investigate Beijing.
very good place to stay at if you want to see downtown beijing. 5 minutes walking to the big shopping street and 10 minutes walking to the forbidden city. Staff will help with everything!
There is a small alley you need to walk through to get to the hostel which was not appealing at frist, but realizing that BJ near Tian An Men is quite safe, it wasn't that bad. A comfortable environment and a pleasant stay overall. 10 min away from Wong Fu Jin street which is also a tourist attraction. The stay is relatively affordable although breakfast (RMB35) was slightly expensive. Overall good and you get your money's worth.
nice hostel very clean, and helpfull the personal of the hostel
People of Jade are very friendly and helpfull. They work with a smile on their face. Call a taxi and give advice about how to go somehere and translate also in Chinese. They are polite. Only breakfast is too expensive. No cheese and bakened eggs!
This place is superb, the 3rd time back - and would definately go again. Not only do they book ALL tours for no extra cost, they will even organise flights/train/bus tickets.
This is the best hostel I've ever seen. The best structure of all hostels that I visited.
unbelievably clean rooms, air-conditioned, cable tv; very friendly staff and comprehensive services; great location--right next to the forbidden city and walking distance to wangfujing and subway stations. the bar and restaurant are subpar and expensive, but there are lots of little stands in the hutong behind the hostel. internet cafe management needs more organization. ping-pong table and foosball table by the bar.
