    Hull:

Rebuilt in 1862, Yorkshire's last remaining Napoleonic fortress stands outside the village of Paull, near Hull. Visitors can trace Fort Paull's history back to 1542 and see the only surviving Blackburn Beverley aircraft, which rests on the same spot.

Henry VIII commissioned the site's first fort in 1542, in order to protect the valuable Humber Ports nearby. One of the fort's caponieres (a tunnel within a tunnel) gives an insight into life there during the king's reign. Please note: Fort Paull is closed on Mondays in winter.
